How Tariffed checks

Every claim on this site comes from a public record. This page names the records and says what they do not cover.

Who owns a company

For the software checker and the ad filter, an ultimate parent is named only when two independent public records agree. If they do not agree, the row is not published and the ad stays.

The records come from:

• Wikidata
• the GLEIF register of legal entities
• United States Securities and Exchange Commission filings, through EDGAR
• a national or provincial corporate register
• a filing or statement by the company itself

Every call and the records behind it are on the brand list. Prices in the software checker are estimates dated to the day they were read, and you can replace any of them with your own figure.

Tariff readings

Tariffed looks up a tariff code on the lists published by the United States government. A code lookup does not classify a product, calculate a duty bill, or replace a customs broker.

The Section 338 list comes from CBP message CSMS 69606660, attachment Section 338 Canada HTS List Final, 21 August 2026. Every other programme and every rate comes from the chapter 99 United States notes in the USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Revision 17 (2026). Code descriptions come from the same schedule.

Readings go to six digits. Tariffed does not pick the seventh and eighth digit for your product. Some orders depend on the finished article, so six digits cannot settle them. Those readings ask for a person to review the code, and a licensed broker settles it.

Antidumping and countervailing duties are not searched. Neither are patented pharmaceuticals. Heading 9903.04.60 charges those at 100 percent, and the charge follows patent status instead of the code. A clear result on the code checker does not mean a clear entry at the border.

Registry listings

A listing in the registry of Canadian businesses may come from the business itself, from a customer, or from a named public source. The page labels which one supplied it and links the supporting source when there is one. Every submission is read before it is published.

What a badge means

Every business in the registry carries one badge. The badge reads the published lists against the codes on file for that business.

• Tariffed 50% a code is on the Section 338 list.
• Tariffed, extra a code falls under another United States programme.
• Needs review six digits cannot settle it. Part of the heading is taxed, or the order turns on the finished article.
• No US tariff no code is on the lists held here.
• No codes given the listing has no code to check.

The code checker reads one code at a time and names the heading in the words of the list. No badge on this site is a customs ruling.

Corrections

If a reading is wrong, email hello@tariffed.ca with the page, the row, and the public record that should change it. Tariffed will check the record, correct or remove the claim when the evidence supports that, and update the date shown on the page. A request from a listed business goes to the front of the queue.
